Interview types and skills interrelated

  An interview is the kind of conversation take place between an employer and the candidate. This is a process to select the potential personnel and appoint them to the company or the organization. Whether for a fresher or an experienced candidate, everyone needs to face the interview table while seeking a job. Other than the academic certificate, the interviewer also looks in to certain other things like appearance of the candidate, fluency in language, grooming and so on. These can be considered as interview skill.


There are different types of interview, where, a candidate needs to posse’s certain interview skill to crack it. Types of interview are interrelated with interview skill. For example, a candidate is having one on one conversation, and facing tricky questions like how do you rate yourself as potential candidate? While facing such question the candidate has to answer wisely. Let’s have a discussion on it –


Interview skill is required to face any type of interview.


In telephonic interview the candidate and the interviewer do not get the chance to see each other’s facial expression. During the entire telecom, both the parties are only hearing each other’s voices. They are able to understand their expression only by hearing the voice modulation. This is a kind of interview skill required to be shown while telephonic interview.

Then during face-to-face interview, one of the most challenging one, candidate needs to posse’s straight body language, eye-to-eye contact, normal facial expression. All are considered as interview skill.


During a group discussion, or group interview, candidate has to interact with every single person in the group. Every individual will ask different questions. In such situation you have to answer promptly, you have to have control on your emotions, not to lose temper, not to have high expectations.

Interview at lunch or dinner table, is a type of interview, where a candidate is judged by his or her table manners. This includes starting from ordering food to how are you eating, whether you are maintaining table etiquette. These are all called as interview skill.

Conclusion: Every job profile may not require soft skills, yet a candidate to face different types of interview, needs to know interview skill. It will improve his quality as a candidate and will help to grow in his career further. From the above discussion it is clarified that interview types and interview skill are quite inter related.
